Volunteering at Lion & Cheetah Sanctuary is a chance to take part in the work behind a wildlife destination. It is practical, sometimes messy and built around the needs of the animals rather than a visitor’s wish list.
If you enjoy being outdoors, are willing to learn and want to contribute, tell us about yourself. The sanctuary welcomes volunteering and voluntourism enquiries from individuals and groups, with placements arranged around the current programme.
Tasks may include food preparation, cleaning, enclosure maintenance, fence checks and observing animal behaviour. Work is allocated by the team, with guidance appropriate to the task.
Send your preferred dates and how long you hope to stay. Include your experience, interests and any access needs so we can discuss the placement and eligibility with you.
Ask for the volunteer information pack, including accommodation, meals, programme fees and transport arrangements. A placement is confirmed separately from a general stay enquiry.
The everyday jobs matter: preparing food correctly, keeping an environment clean, noticing changes and helping maintain the property. The sanctuary’s earlier programme also included horse care and the practical work of improving enclosures.
You do not need to arrive with a dramatic story about working with predators. Bring patience, a willingness to follow instructions and respect for the routines already in place. Direct animal contact is not the measure of a worthwhile placement.
Working alongside a team gives you a different view of the sanctuary from a day visit. You begin to understand the preparation, repetition and care that sit behind the moments guests see. The work is shared, and the animals’ requirements come first.
There is also time to get to know the setting and the people. The older volunteer programme describes evenings around a braai, time by the pool and the sound of lions and hyenas at night. Ask about the current daily routine and what is included in your placement.
Tell us your preferred dates, intended duration, relevant experience and why this work interests you. Include the number of people applying and whether you would need accommodation or transport. We will respond with the current programme information and next steps.
